About
What this site is
xgEdge reads European football through expected goals: how good the chances each side created and conceded actually were, rather than only how many went in. Every table, ranking and price on the site is built from that one measure.
The site
Football, measured by its chances
xgEdge publishes expected-goals tables, club and player figures, fixtures and results for around thirty European competitions, along with model probabilities for upcoming matches and a comparison with the bookmakers' prices.
It is an independent project run under the name xgEdgeStats. It is free to read, it has no accounts, and nothing on it is behind a login.
The data
Where the numbers come from
Match results, shots and player statistics are licensed from sports data providers and refreshed several times a day. Odds are collected from public bookmaker prices a few times a day and shown as they stood when they were collected.
When a provider is late, missing a competition or wrong, the site is too, and the pages say so where a season's data is incomplete rather than filling the gap.
The model
Estimates, not predictions
Each shot is given a probability of becoming a goal from where and how it was taken. Added up over a match or a season, those probabilities say how many goals a side's chances were worth — and from that, how strong each side is in attack and defence, and how likely each outcome of its next match is.
The method, its backtest and the markets it has no skill on are written up in full on the How it works page. Every number is an estimate, and no single result is ever known in advance.
Betting
What the betting pages are, and are not
The betting section compares the model's probabilities with bookmakers' prices and keeps a public record of how those comparisons turned out. It is published for reading: no bet can be placed here, no stake is taken, and nothing here is betting advice.
It is for adults aged 18 or over. If betting has stopped being a choice, help is at BeGambleAware (begambleaware.org).
Independence
Nobody pays for a verdict
The site has no commercial relationship with any bookmaker, club or league, carries no affiliate links, and is paid by nobody to rate anything higher or lower than the data does.
